ENTRY FOR THE LONDON MARATHON IS NOW CLOSED. IF THERE IS ANOTHER MARATHON OR RUNNING EVENT YOU WOULD LIKE TO TAKE PART IN ON BEHALF OF THE NIGHTINGALE, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH ON 020 8366 9674.
If running a marathon is something you’ve always wanted to do, or you’ve taken up running/jogging during lockdown, or you just fancy a challenge, then this is for you! The Virgin Money London Marathon is still being held this year, both in person and virtually on Sunday 3rd October. The Nightingale currently has 10 virtual spaces available for everyone and anyone to apply for, regardless of ability.
What is a virtual marathon?
Great question! You’ll have the opportunity to complete the marathon in your own time, in your own way, in your own area. The distance is the same (26.2 miles) but you can design your own route to suit your abilities and running style, maybe you like the more scenic routes in your local park or maybe you prefer running through your town. All you’ll need is the Official App (available in September) to track your progress from 00:00:00 and 23:59:59 on Sunday 3 October. The great thing about taking part in the virtual marathon is you’re able to ‘pause’ the Official App. So if you wanted to take a little break, YOU CAN! You’re totally in control.
This year also looks to be the biggest marathon ever staged anywhere in the world, with over 100,000 people scheduled to take part!
The Nightingale participants won’t have to pay an entry fee, but we do ask you to raise a minimum of £150. If this sounds like a lot, we’re here to help. For useful tips on setting up your fundraising and sponsorship pages, we have a Virtual Fundraising Pack and other helpful tools. Our Fundraising Officer, Louise and our Marketing Officer, Lucy are also on hand to help with any ideas you have and to promote your fundraising activities.
If you’re still unsure as to whether you should apply read, Kelly and Suzanne’s Story for inspiration and motivation. They completed the London Marathon in 2018 and have no regrets.
