What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a gentle and holistic therapy that has been used for thousands of years to support health and wellbeing. It involves the insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body to help restore balance and encourage the body’s natural healing processes.
Many people find acupuncture helpful in managing symptoms such as pain, fatigue, stress, nausea and sleep difficulties.
For those affected by cancer, acupuncture can be a supportive treatment alongside medical care, often used to ease side effects of treatment or promote relaxation and emotional wellbeing.
Our acupuncturist, Malti (LicAc., MBAcC) is trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine and supports people at all stages of the cancer. Malti tailors all sessions to each individual giving them a calming and restorative experience no matter where they are in their cancer journey.
Cancer and its treatments (like surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy) can lead to a range of physical and emotional symptoms.
At The Nightingale, we most commonly support people experiencing:
- Anxiety
- Insomnia
- Pain
- Nausea
- Hot flushes
- Fatigue
- Chemo-induced peripheral neuropathy.
How can acupuncture help?
- Pain Management: Easing musculoskeletal, nerve-related, or internal pain
- Nausea Relief: Stimulating specific points reducing nausea and vomiting
- Fatigue Support: Improving energy levels to feel more active in daily life
- Emotional Wellbeing: Releasing endorphins and restoring inner balance
- Improved Sleep Quality: Feeling more rested through addressed pain and anxiety
- General Wellbeing: Support the body as a whole—enhancing circulation, reducing inflammation, and helping your immune system stay strong
Acupuncture is a cumulative therapy, so the results of each session build on the results of the ones before it. That is why we offer a six-week course, designed to allow our clients to receive the full range of benefits acupuncture provides.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more about acupuncture and how it may support you, please speak with a member of our team.
Please note: Acupuncture is not a replacement for conventional treatment. We work in partnership with your GP and oncology team with their support.
