Volunteer at the Nightingale

We greatly value all the experience and knowledge volunteers bring to the charity as without them we simply would not be able to deliver our services or raise the funds necessary to deliver them. In short, we could not do what we do without them.

Why volunteer?

Some find the experience and confidence they gain from working at The Nightingale a useful stepping stone on the way to a rewarding career, others want to put their lifetime of experience to good use. Whoever you are, there’s a role for you at The Nightingale.

By volunteering with The Nightingale, you’ll be part one of the biggest cancer support centres in Enfield, helping hundreds of people each year cope with the devastating affects of cancer.

What roles are there?

Though we have specific Volunteer Job Descriptions which are listed below, we’re keen to develop all aspects of our charity. If you don’t see a job description for you, but have a specialist skill you’d like to share with us, please don’t hesitate to fill out an application form. We may need you and we don’t know it yet!

We regularly update our volunteer opportunities, so do check our roles regularly if you don’t see something that suits you right now.

How do I apply?

Have a look at our current roles and apply by completing our online Application Form HERE. If we want to take your application further we’ll invite you into our centre to talk about your experience, why you want to volunteer and what areas you’d like to volunteer in. This is as much a chance for us to get to know you as it is for you to get to know us. We’ll then have a better idea of your skills and interests and can match you to the right role. Please note that two references will be taken up for all volunteer positions and a Criminal Record Bureau check will be required for some roles.

All applicants are asked to give two reference on their application form, which helps us to gain a better understanding of you.

‘I can’t see a role for me’

That’s not a problem. We have other, more ad hoc, volunteering opportunities available too. These range from helping at events, supporting awareness stands, fundraising, leafleting, driving, officer support, the list goes on. If you have a skill you would like to share with us then please do send complete our Volunteer Application Form HERE.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please complete our online Volunteer Application Form by clicking here. We look forward to receiving your application.

What Our Volunteers Say

I’m always made to feel welcomed and valued when at The Nightingale and all the volunteers are such a friendly bunch, it’s easy to fit in.

Lindsay, Volunteer

I wanted to give something back to the local community and use the skills I had gained from paid employment. I chose a The Nightingale because cancer is something that touches so many peoples lives. In my work for the charity I have seen how a friendly word, a relaxing massage or even the simple act of giving someone a cup of coffee can change a person’s day.

Val, Volunteer

I began to volunteer after being a client of The Nightingale… I love the fact I’m able to give back and help others

Alexandra, Volunteer

I have been with the Nightingale for 18 months and I like the range of services offered and the thought that goes in to what might suit the individual. It’s a place that cares and you can feel it immediately.

As a volunteer I give my time and I receive an opportunity to reconnect with what is most important; our relationships with others, particularly in times of need.

Elaine, Volunteer

I have been volunteering with The Nightingale for several years, I really enjoy being part of a team! I have always been most warmly welcomed, always been thanked, always worked with unfailingly cheerful, polite and efficient teams… a treat! I look forward to continuing my support of this local charity for many years.
