Volunteer at The Nightingale
We greatly value all the experience and knowledge volunteers bring to the charity as without them we simply would not be able to deliver our services or raise the funds necessary to deliver them. In short, we could not do what we do without them.
Why volunteer at The Nightingale?
Some find the experience and confidence they gain from working at The Nightingale a useful stepping stone on the way to a rewarding career, others want to put their lifetime of experience to good use. Whoever you are, there’s a role for you at The Nightingale.
What roles are there?
Though we have specific ongoing Volunteer Roles below we also have many ad hoc roles too ranging from helping at events, supporting awareness stands, fundraising, leafleting, office support, the list goes on. We’re keen to develop all aspects of our charity, so if you also have a specialist skill you’d like to share with us, please fill out anapplication. We may need you and we just don’t know it yet!

What do our volunteers say?

A few years ago I asked if I could help with The Night Hike. Gradually the role increased and I was getting the goody bag donations and helping with lots of other aspects of the Hike. It was very satisfying to help and see entry numbers increase every year. The smiles on the Hikers faces as they journey round Enfield says a lot about how happy they are to participate.
Overall volunteering can be varied but it does give you a good uplifting feeling. I love organising events and meeting people. It’s brilliant when a plan comes together and you raise lots of money to help towards running costs. It’s also amazing to help people when they most need some care and attention to make their cancer journey a little easier.

I work here as I live locally and enjoy being part of the community.
Our customers are lovely! It’s wonderful seeing the donations coming in and quickly being sold for such a good cause.
Amazingly, ALL the outfits in this picture (including my shoes!) are from the Baker Street Shop!

I love helping people, so I went to the office to meet The Nightingale team to see what the charity was all about. After that I started helping with the Awareness Stands as part of the Awareness Campaign. I go to different locations in and around Enfield to raise awareness of the charity and the centre and let people know who The Nightingale are and what they do.
I love the sense of achievement after every Awareness Stand and the feeling that I’m making a difference to people’s lives.
You might have heard me about Enfield as I even sing those famous words: “Raising awareness for The Nightingale” just to get some attention and attract more people to the stand.
I’m also the DJ at the Night Hike, playing some great tunes to get your energy up for the walk.
We have over 100 volunteers. Find out what a few more said during Volunteers Week
